The Ultimate Christmas Tree Fruit Pizza: A Festive and Lighter Holiday Treat

This content is inspired by my participation in the SPLENDA® 365 SWEET SWAPS™ Blogger Program by McNeil Nutritionals, LLC and The Motherhood. I received products and compensation for my time, but all opinions, experiences, and photographs shared are my own heartfelt expressions. I genuinely hope you find joy and inspiration in this festive recipe.

Embracing the Joy of Fruit Pizza: A Personal Tradition

The magic of fruit pizza first entered my life many years ago, thanks to my sister. From the moment I tasted its delightful combination of a tender, cookie-like crust, a creamy topping, and an abundance of fresh fruit, I was utterly smitten. It quickly became my preferred “birthday cake,” a tradition I eagerly anticipated each year. There’s something inherently charming and refreshing about a fruit pizza that sets it apart from more conventional desserts, making it a truly special treat for any occasion.

As the holiday season draws near, my thoughts naturally turn to festive gatherings, family traditions, and, of course, delicious food. This year, I found myself contemplating how to create holiday treats that cater to everyone, especially those family members who appreciate lower sugar options. The festive table is often laden with rich, decadent desserts, and while wonderful, it’s always a thoughtful gesture to offer something a little lighter, yet equally celebratory. This desire led me to revisit my beloved fruit pizza concept, but with a joyful, holiday-inspired twist.

Making a Sweet Swap for a Healthier Holiday

To transform my classic fruit pizza into a holiday showstopper that everyone could enjoy, I decided to make a “Sweet Swap.” The crust of a fruit pizza is typically quite sweet, so it presented the perfect opportunity to incorporate SPLENDA®. By replacing some of the traditional sugar with SPLENDA® Sugar Blends, I could significantly reduce the added sugar and calories without compromising on flavor or texture.

This simple modification involved substituting both the white granulated sugar and the brown sugar in the crust recipe with SPLENDA® Granulated Sugar and SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend. The process was surprisingly straightforward. SPLENDA® Granulated Sugar offers a convenient 1-to-1 cup-for-cup replacement for traditional sugar, making it incredibly easy to integrate into existing recipes. The SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend, while having a slightly different conversion ratio, also comes with clear guidelines on its packaging, ensuring a seamless swap. This flexibility makes it a fantastic ingredient for those looking to enjoy their favorite baked goods with less sugar, providing a guilt-free indulgence during the festive season.

The Versatility of Fruit Pizza: Catering to All Dietary Needs

One of the beauties of this Christmas Tree Fruit Pizza is its adaptability. While I opted for a basic store-bought whipped topping for convenience, the reduced sugar in the crust itself makes this dessert a much more accessible option for many. It’s truly a struggle to resist all the sweet treats at Christmas parties, isn’t it? For those of us mindful of sugar intake, having a delicious, festive option like this fruit pizza can make all the difference, allowing us to partake in the holiday cheer without feeling deprived.

Beyond sugar reduction, this recipe can also be effortlessly adapted for those with gluten sensitivities. Simply by using a high-quality gluten-free all-purpose flour blend for the crust, you can create a completely gluten-free Christmas Tree Fruit Pizza. This ensures that even more friends and family members can gather around the holiday table and enjoy a slice of this vibrant and joyful dessert. The goal is to create a delightful experience that embraces inclusivity, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and satisfied.

Crafting Your Edible Christmas Tree: Shaping and Decorating

The festive appeal of this fruit pizza truly comes alive with its Christmas tree shape. Once the dough for the crust is prepared and chilled, the fun begins. Simply roll it out onto a lightly floured surface, and then, with a sharp knife or a Christmas tree cookie cutter, freehand cut out your desired tree shape. Don’t worry about achieving absolute perfection; the beauty of a homemade treat lies in its charming imperfections. Plus, you’ll be covering it with a luscious whipped topping and an array of colorful fresh fruits, so any minor wobbles will simply add to its character.

After baking the crust to a delicate golden brown and allowing it to cool completely, the artistic part begins. Spread a generous layer of creamy whipped topping evenly over the tree-shaped crust. This not only adds a wonderful textural contrast but also provides a pristine white canvas for your fruity “ornaments.” Consider using a variety of red and green fruits like strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, green grapes, or even blueberries and mandarin oranges for a burst of color. Arrange them creatively to mimic garlands, baubles, and lights on your edible Christmas tree. A starfruit slice or a simple yellow plum can be used as a topper, completing the festive look. The visual appeal of this dessert is undeniable; it’s a showstopper that will instantly brighten any holiday spread.

A Delightful Dessert for Holiday Gatherings

The end result of your efforts will be a truly delicious and visually stunning Christmas Tree Fruit Pizza that your friends and family will adore. It’s a refreshing alternative to heavier holiday desserts, offering a perfect balance of sweetness and fresh fruit. Imagine the smiles when you present this vibrant centerpiece! It’s not just a dessert; it’s a conversation starter, a joyous expression of holiday spirit, and a testament to thoughtful preparation. This fruit pizza is designed to be shared, creating memorable moments around the table. Each slice offers a satisfying crunch from the crust, a cloud-like creaminess from the topping, and a burst of juicy flavor from the fruit, making every bite an absolute pleasure.

Are you ready to take a bite? I certainly am! The combination of flavors and textures, alongside the festive presentation, makes this a holiday dessert that will be requested year after year. It perfectly embodies the spirit of giving and sharing, providing a wholesome yet indulgent option for celebratory meals. Beyond its delicious taste, the fact that it incorporates a sweet swap using SPLENDA® makes it an even more appealing choice for those who are health-conscious, allowing them to enjoy the festive season to the fullest without compromise.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Butter, Softened
  • 2 Cups SPLENDA® Granulated Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/4 Cup plus 2 Tbsp Milk
  • 2 Tsp Vanilla
  • 4 Cups All Purpose Flour or Gluten Free All Purpose Flour
  • 2 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 1 12 oz Container of Whipped Topping
  • Variety of Fresh Fruit

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Begin by preparing the crust. In a large bowl, combine the softened butter, SPLENDA® Granulated Sugar, SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend, eggs, milk, and vanilla. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated and creamy.
  3. Gradually add in the flour (all-purpose or gluten-free), baking powder, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
  4. Once the dough is well combined, turn it out onto a large, lightly floured surface. Roll the dough to your desired thickness and then carefully cut out a Christmas Tree shape. You can use any remaining dough to make smaller sugar cookies.
  5. Place the Christmas tree crust onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned and the crust is cooked through.
  6. Remove from the oven and let the crust cool completely on the cookie sheet before carefully transferring it to a serving tray for decorating.
  7. Once the crust is entirely cooled, evenly spread the whipped topping over the entire surface of the Christmas tree.
  8. Arrange your variety of fresh fruits (strawberries, kiwi, grapes, blueberries, etc.) decoratively on top of the whipped topping to resemble Christmas tree ornaments.
  9. Cut into slices and serve immediately, or chill until ready to enjoy.
