For those who frequently follow my culinary adventures, my affection for the air fryer is no secret. This versatile kitchen appliance has truly transformed the way my family and I approach weeknight meals, making it incredibly simple to whip up delicious dishes that taste like they came straight from a restaurant. Among our most cherished air fryer creations is this incredibly flavorful Air Fryer Korean BBQ Beef – a dish that brings the vibrant tastes of Korean cuisine right to your dining table with minimal fuss.

Gone are the days when enjoying succulent Korean BBQ meant a trip to your favorite eatery. Now, with the magic of the air fryer and a few high-quality ingredients, you can easily replicate this beloved dish in the comfort of your own kitchen. This recipe focuses on creating thinly sliced, tender beef that achieves a delightful crispness in the air fryer, then tossing it in a rich, homemade Korean BBQ sauce. The result is a perfect balance of savory, sweet, and tangy flavors, making it an instant family favorite.

The beauty of this meal lies in its straightforward preparation. We begin by cooking thinly sliced steak to perfection in the air fryer, ensuring each piece is tender on the inside with a wonderfully crispy exterior. Once cooked, these flavorful beef strips are generously coated in our special Korean BBQ Sauce, crafted to highlight the authentic taste profile using premium Pompeian Oils. This method not only drastically cuts down on cooking time but also makes cleanup a breeze, proving that gourmet flavors can indeed be achieved with everyday convenience.

Mastering Air Fryer Korean BBQ Beef: A Step-by-Step Guide

Air Fryer Korean BBQ Beef

Creating this irresistible Air Fryer Korean BBQ Beef is simpler than you might imagine. The key components are high-quality beef, proper preparation, and a meticulously crafted sauce that balances all the right flavors. Let’s dive into how you can bring this exquisite dish to life:

Choosing and Preparing Your Beef

For this recipe, selecting the right cut of beef is crucial for achieving that signature tender texture. We recommend a thin sirloin or flank steak. These cuts are ideal because they are lean and become incredibly tender when thinly sliced and cooked quickly. When preparing your steak, it’s essential to cut it against the grain. This technique shortens the muscle fibers, making the beef much more tender and easier to chew. Aim for thin, bite-sized pieces that will cook evenly and absorb the sauce beautifully. A helpful tip for easier slicing is to partially freeze the steak for about 20-30 minutes before cutting; this firms up the meat, allowing for cleaner, more uniform slices.

Once your steak is perfectly sliced, the next step involves a light coating of cornstarch and Pompeian Coconut Oil Spray. The cornstarch plays a dual role here: it helps to achieve a crispy exterior during air frying and acts as a thickening agent for the sauce, allowing it to cling wonderfully to each piece of beef. The Pompeian Coconut Oil Spray is particularly excellent for this dish.

We specifically opt for Pompeian Coconut Oil Spray because it imparts a delightful, subtle sweetness that complements the robust flavors of Korean BBQ, while also ensuring a beautiful crispy finish as the steak cooks in the air fryer. This unique flavor profile enhances the dish without overpowering it.

Beyond its culinary benefits, Pompeian Coconut Oil Spray is a fantastic choice for the entire family because it contains no artificial additives. This commitment to natural ingredients means you’re serving a healthier option to your loved ones. Furthermore, unlike some cooking sprays, Pompeian’s formula ensures no propellants are dispensed into the air during use, making it a cleaner and more pleasant cooking experience.

Crafting the Signature Korean BBQ Sauce

The soul of this dish truly lies in its Korean BBQ sauce. While there are countless variations, my adapted recipe strikes a harmonious balance of sweet, savory, and a hint of tang. A special addition to my sauce is Pompeian White Wine Vinegar. This ingredient is a game-changer, offering a crisp, clean taste that brightens the entire sauce and adds depth without any added sugar (it contains 0g of sugar). Its versatility makes it a perfect companion for a wide array of sauces and marinades, and it truly shines in this Korean BBQ blend.

Beyond the vinegar, our sauce combines classic ingredients like soy sauce (ensure it’s gluten-free if needed), brown sugar for sweetness, ground ginger, fresh crushed garlic for aromatic depth, and a touch of hot chili sauce for a gentle kick. Sesame seeds add a subtle nutty flavor and texture. A final touch of cornstarch and water creates a slurry that thickens the sauce to the perfect consistency, ensuring it beautifully coats the beef.

Cuisine: American

Servings: 4 Servings

Prep Time: 15 mins

Cook Time: 30 mins

Total Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 Pound Flank Steak or Thinly Sliced Steak
  • 1/4 Cup Corn Starch
  • Pompeian Oils Coconut Spray

Sauce

  • 1/2 Cup Soy Sauce (use Gluten-Free if preferred)
  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Pompeian White Wine Vinegar
  • 1 Clove Garlic, Crushed
  • 1 Tbsp Hot Chili Sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Tsp Ground Ginger
  • 1/2 Tsp Sesame Seeds
  • 1 Tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp Water

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing the steak. Thinly slice it against the grain, then toss the slices thoroughly in 1/4 cup of cornstarch until each piece is lightly coated.
  2. Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (199°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket or line it with parchment paper (designed for air fryers) using Pompeian Coconut Oil Spray.
  3. Place the seasoned steak slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, being careful not to overcrowd. Spray another light coat of Pompeian Coconut Oil Spray on top of the steak.
  4. Cook in the air fryer for 10 minutes at 390°F (199°C). After 10 minutes, open the air fryer, gently shake the basket or turn the steak pieces, and cook for an additional 10 minutes, or until the beef is cooked through and crispy. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) using a meat thermometer.
  5. While the steak is cooking, combine all sauce ingredients EXCEPT the 1 Tbsp cornstarch and 1 Tbsp water in a medium saucepan. Bring the mixture to a low boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 Tbsp cornstarch and 1 Tbsp water to create a slurry. Slowly whisk this slurry into the simmering sauce in the saucepan. Continue to whisk until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
  7. Once the steak is cooked, carefully remove it from the air fryer and transfer it to a large bowl. Pour the freshly made Korean BBQ sauce over the steak and mix well, ensuring every piece is generously coated.
  8. Serve immediately. Garnish with freshly sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. This dish pairs perfectly with cooked rice (white, brown, or cauliflower rice) and steamed green beans or your favorite Asian-inspired side dishes.
