Easy Homemade Holiday Treats: Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Covered Ritz Crackers & More!
The holiday season is a magical time, filled with warmth, family, and the delicious aroma of homemade treats wafting from the kitchen. For many, these culinary traditions are the heart of what makes the holidays special. Last year, our family found ourselves in the midst of a big move, closing on our new home shortly after Christmas. With life packed into boxes and endless unpacking ahead, the usual festive baking rituals had to be put on hold. It was a stark departure from the year prior, when I joyfully spent hours in the kitchen crafting an assortment of homemade goodies, which my son and I would then lovingly deliver to friends and family. That tradition of shared baking and spreading cheer is one I deeply cherish, and its absence last year left a noticeable void.
This year, the boxes are unpacked, the kitchen is ready, and we are absolutely thrilled to bring back our cherished holiday baking tradition! There’s something incredibly special about involving little hands in the creation of these festive snacks. It’s not just about the treats themselves, but about the memories made, the laughter shared, and the simple joy of creating something delicious together. To kick off our return to holiday baking, we’ve created a fantastic new addition to our goody bags: Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Covered Ritz Crackers. These delightful bites are so simple, even the youngest helpers can join in the fun, making them perfect for busy holiday schedules.

The Irresistible Charm of Salty-Sweet: Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Covered Ritz Crackers
There’s a reason the combination of salty and sweet is so universally loved. It’s a delightful dance on the palate that these Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Covered Ritz Crackers master perfectly. The crisp, buttery saltiness of the Ritz cracker provides an incredible contrast to the rich, sweet creaminess of the Oreo cookie. Imagine a miniature sandwich: one perfectly round Oreo nestled between two Ritz crackers, creating a symphony of textures and flavors. This ingenious pairing forms the base of what quickly became a family favorite.
Crafting these treats is surprisingly straightforward. Once the cracker-Oreo sandwiches are assembled, the real magic happens with the chocolate. We opted for rich, semi-sweet chocolate, which offers a deep, luxurious flavor without being overly sugary. To infuse a festive touch, we melted the chocolate down and stirred in a generous amount of crunchy peppermint baking chips. The cool, refreshing burst of peppermint perfectly complements the chocolate and adds an undeniable holiday spirit. The mixture is then elegantly drizzled over each cookie sandwich, ensuring every edge and surface is beautifully coated. A final flourish of festive Christmas sprinkles adds color and sparkle, making each treat a miniature work of art. After a brief period to harden, these simple ingredients transform into something truly extraordinary.

The resulting flavor profile is truly amazing. My family instantly fell in love with them, and many commented on how they reminded them of a sophisticated thin mint cookie, but with an added layer of salty complexity that makes them utterly addictive. Beyond the incredible taste, what I cherished most about making these was the opportunity for my son to participate. From laying out the crackers to placing the Oreos, and especially with the fun part of sprinkling, he was an enthusiastic helper every step of the way. It’s these shared moments in the kitchen that truly make holiday baking traditions so meaningful.
Another Kid-Friendly Delight: Chocolate Covered Vanilla Wafers
While the Oreo Stuffed Ritz Crackers were undoubtedly a star, we also whipped up another batch of treats that were a huge hit, particularly with the younger crowd: chocolate covered Vanilla Wafers. These light, crispy cookies are the perfect canvas for a variety of festive toppings and are incredibly simple to prepare, making them another ideal project for aspiring young bakers.

For these, my son took the lead, with a little guidance from me. We chose creamy white chocolate for its vibrant color and smooth texture, which perfectly complemented the delicate vanilla flavor of the wafers. Just like with the Ritz crackers, we mixed in some peppermint crunch baking chips to add that quintessential holiday zing. Melting the white chocolate with the peppermint chips creates a dreamy, minty coating that’s simply irresistible. The process involves gently dipping each wafer into the warm chocolate mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, and then immediately topping them with a generous sprinkle of colorful Christmas decorations. The kids absolutely adored these, and they added a lovely, whimsical touch to our holiday goody bags.

Tips for Your Holiday Baking Adventure
Embarking on a holiday baking adventure, especially with kids, can be wonderfully rewarding. Here are a few tips to ensure your experience is as smooth and joyful as possible:
- Preparation is Key: Before you even start melting chocolate, gather all your ingredients and tools. This includes parchment paper or wax paper for cooling, sprinkles, and any other decorative elements. A well-organized workspace makes the process much more enjoyable.
- Melting Chocolate Safely: Whether you use a microwave or a double boiler, always melt chocolate slowly and carefully to prevent scorching. For the microwave, use short intervals (30 seconds) and stir well in between until smooth. This is especially important when little helpers are around.
- Get Creative with Toppings: Don’t limit yourself to just peppermint crunch and sprinkles! Consider crushed candy canes, chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, or even a drizzle of contrasting colored chocolate. Sea salt flakes can add another layer of flavor to the chocolate-covered Ritz.
- Child-Friendly Tasks: Assign age-appropriate tasks. Younger children can help unwrap crackers, place Oreos, or sprinkle decorations. Older children can assist with melting chocolate (under supervision), dipping, and organizing the cooling process.
- Packaging for Gifting: Once your treats are hardened, carefully store them in airtight containers. For gifting, consider clear cellophane bags tied with festive ribbons, or small decorative boxes. Don’t forget to include a personalized tag!

Both the Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Covered Ritz Crackers and the Chocolate Covered Vanilla Wafers will be proudly featured in our goody bags this year. We’re eager to load them up and embark on our annual mission to drop them off on doorsteps all over town, spreading a little bit of homemade Christmas cheer and joy to our cherished friends and family. It’s a small gesture, but one that carries immense warmth and love during this special season.
