While my conventional oven might feel a bit neglected these days, the speed and consistent results from my air fryer make it an easy choice. We’ve always enjoyed Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas, but this time, we’re putting a succulent beef twist on this classic, using high-quality Skirt Steak from Certified Angus Beef.

Fajitas are a constant on our weekly meal rotation for a simple reason: they are incredibly fast and easy to prepare without compromising on flavor. This recipe for Air Fryer Beef Fajitas is no exception, taking less than 20 minutes from prep to plate!

Choosing the Best Beef for Tender Air Fryer Fajitas

The foundation of outstanding beef fajitas lies in selecting the right cut of meat. For this recipe, we highly recommend using either skirt steak or flank steak. Both cuts are known for their robust beefy flavor and relatively thin profile, which makes them ideal for quick cooking methods like air frying.

However, the secret to achieving melt-in-your-mouth tenderness with these cuts isn’t just about the cooking method; it’s also about how you slice the steak.

Skirt Steak vs. Flank Steak for Fajitas

  • Skirt Steak: This is our preferred choice for its rich, intense beef flavor and slightly more generous marbling, which contributes to its juiciness. Skirt steak tends to be longer and thinner, making it perfect for slicing into fajita strips.
  • Flank Steak: A close second, flank steak is very similar to skirt steak but typically leaner. It offers a wonderful beefy taste and a slightly coarser grain. When cooked and sliced correctly, flank steak delivers an equally satisfying fajita experience.

No matter which cut you choose, ensure it’s from a reputable source like Certified Angus Beef to guarantee superior quality and taste. We source our Certified Angus Beef brand steak from our local Reasor’s, where we always find excellent selections and often stock up during their meat sales throughout the year. Having quality beef readily available in the freezer is a game-changer, especially in places like Oklahoma where grilling weather can be unpredictable!

To confidently choose and prepare any cut of beef, consider utilizing helpful tools like the Roast Perfect App. This handy app offers not only cooking timers but also a wealth of recipes and tips to ensure your beef is cooked to perfection every time.

The Golden Rule: How to Cut Steak Against the Grain

This step is critical for tender fajitas! Cutting steak against the grain means slicing perpendicular to the long muscle fibers. Imagine the steak having visible lines running in one direction; you want your knife to cut across these lines, breaking them up.

Sometimes, the grain might change direction within a single piece of steak, so you might need to adjust your cutting angle as you go. By cutting against the grain, you shorten the muscle fibers, making the beef much more tender and easier to chew. Skipping this step can result in tough, chewy fajitas, even if cooked perfectly.

Cooking Air Fryer Beef Fajitas in Your Ninja Foodi

Absolutely! If you own a Ninja Foodi, you can easily adapt this recipe. Simply use the Air Crisp basket and the Air Crisp function on your Ninja Foodi. The cooking process and timing will be identical to using a traditional air fryer, ensuring you get the same crispy, tender results.

The Perfect Seasoning for Your Fajitas

The seasoning is what truly brings fajitas to life! While many store-bought fajita seasonings are excellent, we often opt for a classic taco seasoning blend. Its savory and slightly smoky notes perfectly complement the beef and vegetables.

If you prefer a more tailored flavor, a homemade fajita seasoning allows for customization of spice levels and ingredient ratios. Whichever you choose, you’ll need approximately 4 tablespoons (or one standard packet) of seasoning for this recipe to ensure every bite is bursting with flavor.

Serving Your Delicious Air Fryer Beef Fajitas

Once your Air Fryer Beef Fajitas are perfectly cooked, the fun truly begins with assembly! Warm corn or flour tortillas are the traditional vessel, but feel free to get creative. For a low-carb option, serve the fajita mix over a bed of crisp lettuce or cauliflower rice.

Essential Fajita Toppings:

  • Fresh salsa or pico de gallo
  • Creamy guacamole or sliced avocado
  • Sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • Shredded cheese (Cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a Mexican blend)
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Lime wedges for a zesty squeeze
  • Sliced jalapeños (fresh or pickled) for an extra kick

Don’t forget to pair your fajitas with classic sides like Mexican rice, refried beans, or a simple corn salad for a complete and satisfying meal.

Meal Prep Tips & Storing Leftovers

These Air Fryer Beef Fajitas are fantastic for meal prepping! You can prepare the beef and vegetables ahead of time, storing them separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. When you’re ready to cook, simply toss everything in the air fryer as directed.

Leftover cooked fajitas can also be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. To reheat, warm them gently in the air fryer for a few minutes until heated through, or in a skillet on the stovetop. They make excellent fillings for quesadillas, burritos, or even a quick fajita salad for lunch the next day.

Now it’s time to enjoy these incredibly simple, juicy, and delicious Air Fryer Beef Fajitas!

Prep Time: 5 mins

Cook Time: 15 mins

Total Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 Pound Certified Angus Beef Skirt Steak or Flank Steak
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper, Diced
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper, Diced
  • 1 Yellow Bell Pepper, Diced
  • 1 Orange Bell Pepper, Diced
  • 1/4 Cup Sweet Onion, Diced
  • 4 Tbsp Fajita Seasoning or 1 Packet
  • Corn or Flour Tortillas

Instructions

  1. Start by cutting the steak against the grain into thin strips.
  2. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil cooking spray. Place the sliced steak into the basket.
  3. Evenly distribute the diced bell peppers and sweet onion over the steak.
  4. Generously sprinkle the fajita seasoning over the beef and vegetables.
  5. Spray everything with another light coat of olive oil cooking spray to help the seasoning adhere and promote even cooking.
  6. Cook at 390°F (199°C) for 5 minutes.
  7. After 5 minutes, open the air fryer (or Ninja Foodi). Carefully mix the ingredients to ensure everything is well-coated with seasoning and cooking evenly. Add an additional spray of olive oil cooking spray if needed.
  8. Close and continue cooking in the air fryer for an additional 5-10 minutes at 390°F (199°C), or until the beef reaches your desired doneness and the vegetables are tender-crisp. We often find an additional 7 minutes works perfectly. After 5 minutes, check for doneness and add 2-5 more minutes if preferred.
  9. Serve immediately on warm tortillas with your favorite fajita toppings.
